GERMANY / 2026 REVIEW

Berlin Pride 2026 and a summer of CSD in Germany

Berlin Pride, ColognePride and Munich’s PrideWeeks each shaped the summer of 2026 in their own way. The names differ, and so do the demonstrations, the street festivals and the weeks of events around them.

The three cities ↓

THREE CITIES

Three different ways to build a Pride season.

More than six weeks separated the beginning of Munich’s PrideWeeks from the Berlin demonstration. The calendar alone shows why there is no single German CSD format.

BERLIN

CSD Berlin Pride Demonstration

Under the motto “Haltung ist hot”, hundreds of thousands took to the streets, from Leipziger Straße past Nollendorfplatz to the Brandenburg Gate. The evening ended in grief. Shortly before 10 pm, while the closing programme was still running, a man drove a van into people on a path in the Tiergarten. A woman was killed and around 30 people were injured. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office took over the investigation into the attack, which the authorities are treating as Islamist terrorism.

COLOGNE

ColognePride

The name covered more than two weeks of events, a three-day street festival in the Altstadt and the final CSD demonstration on Sunday 5 July, when the organisers counted around 1.5 million people in the city.

MUNICH

PrideWeeks and PolitParade

Two PrideWeeks led into the PolitParade on Saturday 27 June and the new three-day PrideMeile on Ludwigstraße, between Odeonsplatz and the Siegestor. A record 214 groups joined the march, with Dominik Krause, Munich’s first openly gay mayor, at the front as patron.

THE NAME

Why CSD?

Germany’s name for many Pride demonstrations points back to Christopher Street in New York. Berlin, Cologne and Munich show how CSD and Pride now work side by side.

Why Germany uses both names →

THE DAY

March by day, street festival, club at night

A CSD day comes in three acts, and one outfit rarely sees you through all of them. The march asks for comfortable shoes and the street festival for free hands, while the club wants a little more effort. That is why the regulars travel light and change as they go.

01

On the march

The march is long, loud and usually hot. In Berlin it ran for hours from Leipziger Straße to the Brandenburg Gate, and by the third hour broken-in shoes, a bottle of water and sun cream count for more than any second outfit.

02

At the street festival

In Berlin the street festival came first. On 18 and 19 July the Lesbian and Gay City Festival filled Motzstraße, Fuggerstraße and the streets around Nollendorfplatz, the heart of gay Schöneberg for more than a century. Somewhere between the stages the mobile network gives up, and the friends who agreed on a meeting point find each other again.

03

Later at night

Clubs set their own rules for bags, entry and dress. An open shirt or a light jacket takes up little room and comes in handy once the night cools down, and a piece from the Pride collection carries the colours from the march to the last song.
