BUCHAREST PRIDE 2026 / QUEER ROMANIA

Bucharest Pride 2026 marched to the doorstep of Parliament

On Saturday 13 June, Bucharest Pride left Piața Victoriei at five, walked down Calea Victoriei and ended in Parcul Izvor, in the shadow of the Palace of Parliament. That is where the laws that still leave same-sex couples unrecognised are made. ACCEPT, the organiser, counted about 35,000 people, a record for the march. Six weeks later, in Oradea, a few hundred people marched after City Hall had refused every route, while in Timișoara the community keeps building in daylight. Queer Romania in 2026 looks different from one city to the next.

BUCHAREST PRIDE 2026 / ALL OF US

Tens of thousands on Calea Victoriei, and still no partnership law

The 21st Bucharest Pride ran from 3 to 13 June under the theme “All of Us”, marking thirty years since ACCEPT was founded. For the first time the festival had a Pride Hub, a garden on Strada I. L. Caragiale that stayed open every day. Pride Park brought two days of concerts to Parcul Izvor, where the march ended. There, the manifesto of this year’s Pride, written after a nationwide consultation, was read out from the stage. Along the route, the crowd had chanted for legal protection and recognition for every family. Pride is a protest people dress up for, and that is the whole idea behind the ADDICTED Pride collection.

BUCHAREST / AFTER DARK

No gay district, and a queer night that keeps moving

Gay Bucharest has its fixed points, from Q Club, where MozaiQ held its Pride-night party, to MozaiQ’s own Q Center. Much of the scene, though, still runs on cultural projects, temporary rooms and word of mouth. That builds close bonds, but it also says something uncomfortable about who feels safe being visible in daylight.

ROMANIA / RIGHTS

What a European judgment changes, and what it cannot

The Coman and Buhuceanu cases put same-sex couples and family life before Europe’s courts. Their decisions matter, but a court ruling is not the same thing as a clear domestic law that people can use without another legal fight. In May 2026, more than 100,000 signatures for civil partnership reached the Chamber of Deputies, where the bills already filed were stuck in the legal affairs committee.

TIMIȘOARA / COMMUNITY

Building in daylight.

Identity.Education has taken a different route from the capital’s informal night networks. Its work in western Romania brings together art, education, community events and counselling in partner spaces across Timișoara.

The organisation’s queer city tours and history projects also ask where people met before public visibility felt possible. That turns local memory into something the next generation can actually use.

ORADEA / 25 JULY 2026

The city said no. The march went ahead.

For Oradea Pride 2026, ARK Oradea submitted more than one hundred possible routes, and City Hall refused all 115, the fourth year running that the march was turned down. On 25 July, several hundred people gathered outside City Hall anyway and walked through the centre, despite the gendarmes’ warnings and fines handed out before the march had even set off.

This is not shorthand for the whole country. It is a precise local story about public space, persistence and the distance between a right on paper and the ability to exercise it.

ORGANISATIONS / BEYOND JUNE

The people who keep the work going after June

Legal advice, counselling, the festival programme and the latest news from Oradea come straight from these four organisations. Their work carries on long after the last flag of June is folded away.
